Lowell, IN – A residential fire in Eagle Creek Township on Tuesday evening tragically resulted in the death of one resident who was trapped inside their mobile home.
According to the Lowell Fire Department, the blaze ignited around 6:28 p.m. in the Apple Valley mobile home community. Responders, including a fire command unit and Tri-Creek EMS, faced heavy fire involvement upon arrival and received reports of a person trapped inside. Due to the advanced stage of the fire and the close proximity of neighboring homes, mutual aid was requested from 13 additional fire departments.
Lowell firefighters from the first arriving engine quickly assembled a rescue team and entered the smoke-filled, fiery home. They located the trapped victim and managed to bring them outside to EMS. Unfortunately, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. The other occupant of the home, the homeowner, was evaluated by EMS on site and did not require hospitalization. No injuries were reported among the firefighters.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Lowell Fire Department Arson Investigation Division, Indiana Department of Homeland Security, and other agencies. Departments assisting included Cedar Lake Fire Department, Crown Point Fire Rescue, and several others, providing crucial support with station coverage and water shuttle operations.
