Lincoln Park, MI – A Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer was critically injured Friday morning after his patrol vehicle was struck on I-75 near Dix in Lincoln Park.
According to Michigan State Police, the officer had stopped on the shoulder around 8:30 a.m. for a traffic stop when a Ford Explorer struck the median. The vehicle then veered onto the freeway, hitting the officer’s patrol vehicle and pushing it into the back of a semi-truck.
The officer was inside the patrol car with his seatbelt fastened during the crash. He was extracted from the vehicle using the jaws of life due to the severity of the impact. He was taken to DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital in critical condition.
The female driver of the Ford Explorer was also transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The semi-truck driver was uninjured.
Authorities are asking the public to keep the officer and his family in their thoughts. An investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released soon.
