GRANT PARK – A fatal accident on Route 17 near Grant Park killed one and injured another Thursday.
Emergency personnel were on the scene East Rt 17 near 18000 East, east of Grant Park around 4pm for a call involving a 2021 Freightliner semi tractor trailer and 2021 Chevrolet Impala near the state line.
According to Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner, the wreck claimed the life of 81-year-old Robert E. Buergermeier of Cedar Lake. It also injured his 81-year-old passenger, Rosemary Buergermeier who was transported to local hospital with serious injuries.
An Illinois State Police District 21 investigation indicated the fatal accident happened when Buergermeier failed to yield to the semi while attempting to cross Route 17 after coming to a stop at a stop sign. An approaching Semi then struck the driver’s side of the car.
No injuries were reported to the driver of the Semi.
