Fargo, ND – A late-night three-vehicle crash in Fargo left multiple people seriously injured and resulted in DUI-related charges against one driver, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred around 11:45 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of 42nd Street South and 52nd Avenue South.
Investigators allege a 2009 Chevrolet Impala traveling southbound on 42nd Street at approximately 45 mph ran a red light before colliding with a westbound 2024 Chevrolet Equinox that had entered the intersection.
Authorities said the Impala struck the driver’s side of the Equinox, causing the SUV to leave the roadway and overturn. After the initial impact, the Impala rotated clockwise and was then rear-ended by a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The 21-year-old Fargo man driving the Impala suffered serious injuries. Troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He now faces allegations including driving under the influence, criminal vehicular injury, open container violations, and no insurance.
A 19-year-old passenger from Grand Forks riding in the Impala also suffered serious injuries and allegedly faces charges for minor in consumption and open container violations. Authorities said he was not wearing a seat belt.
The 41-year-old female driver of the Equinox suffered serious injuries despite wearing a seat belt. A 53-year-old woman driving the Jeep Grand Cherokee suffered minor injuries.
All occupants involved were transported to Essentia Health for treatment.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol continues investigating the crash.
