Portland, OR — Portland is preparing for extreme heat this week, with temperatures expected to soar into the triple digits. An excessive heat warning has been issued, with highs anticipated to reach around 100°F. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts that the hottest days will be Thursday and Friday, where temperatures could reach 100°F in Portland and surrounding areas, including the Columbia River Gorge and Cascade foothills.

According to the NWS, the excessive heat warning will be in effect from noon Thursday until 10 p.m. Friday. Overnight lows are expected to remain in the upper 50s to low 70s, providing little relief from the heat. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure during the hottest hours.

The excessive heat could result in heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable populations. Local authorities urge the public to follow safety guidelines to prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Cooler temperatures are expected to return by Sunday.
