Kansas City, MO – Residents of western Missouri are bracing for a severe heat wave next week, with several consecutive days of heat indices exceeding 100 degrees. This alarming forecast has prompted local authorities to urge residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe.

According to the US National Weather Service in Kansas City, widely scattered thunderstorms are possible today, but severe weather is not expected. However, a cluster of thunderstorms may develop on Sunday evening over southeastern Nebraska, weakening as it moves into northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. The primary concern for Sunday is wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph.

The real concern begins next week as dangerous heat and humidity are predicted. Starting Monday, heat indices in Kansas City are expected to reach 106 degrees, with temperatures soaring to 112 degrees by Tuesday. This intense heat will persist throughout the week, with forecasted highs of 111 degrees on Wednesday, 102 degrees on Thursday, and 100 degrees on Friday.

Other cities in western Missouri, including Chillicothe, Kirksville, Leavenworth, Lee’s Summit, and Maryville, will also experience similarly high temperatures. Heat indices in these areas are forecasted to reach between 107 and 112 degrees during the peak of the heat wave.
