Mobile, AL – A dangerous cold front will bring frigid temperatures and wind chills to the Gulf Coast starting Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service issued an Extreme Cold Watch for south-central and southwest Alabama, northwest Florida, and southeast Mississippi. Temperatures could drop to 8 degrees above zero, with dangerously low wind chills expected. The watch remains in effect from Sunday evening through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, the cold snap will affect areas including Mobile, Pensacola, Gulf Shores, and Destin. Residents should prepare by dressing warmly, protecting pets, and preventing frozen pipes. Authorities urge caution for those venturing outdoors.

“Dress in layers and cover exposed skin to prevent frostbite,” the NWS advised. “Monitor the latest updates for changing conditions.”

This extreme cold could lead to hazardous conditions. Residents are encouraged to stay indoors if possible and check on vulnerable neighbors. Keep a close eye on pets, ensuring they have adequate shelter.

As temperatures plummet, local officials remind residents to take precautions to prevent water line damage by dripping faucets or insulating pipes.
