Dallas, TX – An Extreme Cold Watch is in effect for North and Central Texas from Tuesday evening through Thursday morning, with wind chills expected to drop as low as 10 below zero in some areas. The prolonged freeze poses risks to people, pets, and infrastructure.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the coldest temperatures will hit northwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, where subfreezing conditions may persist for up to three days. Central Texas, including Waco, Temple, and Killeen, will see freezing temperatures mainly at night but rise above freezing during the day.
Residents are urged to take precautions, including protecting outdoor pipes, bringing pets indoors, and dressing in warm layers. Freezing temperatures could lead to icy roads, burst pipes, and increased demand on power systems.
The cold snap is expected to break by Friday afternoon in rural northwest Texas, while DFW will warm up by Thursday afternoon. However, lingering cold conditions could still pose hazards.
