SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has announced an extension of the controlled pheasant hunting program for the 2023-2024 season. This extension will see various sites across the state offering one to two additional weeks of hunting opportunities. Notable locations include Des Plaines State Fish and Wildlife Area in Will County, Silver Springs State Park in Kendall County, and Kankakee River State Park in Kankakee County, among others.
Hunters interested in these extended opportunities are advised to refer to the permit calendar on the controlled pheasant hunting website for detailed information on permit availability. Acquiring a Reserved Controlled Pheasant Hunting Permit is mandatory for participating in these hunts, available through an online reservation system.
The IDNR has also introduced a convenient feature for hunters, allowing them to reserve permits up until 9 a.m. the day before a hunt. The fees for permits are set at $34 for resident hunters and $39 for nonresidents. A transaction fee is also applicable per permit. It’s important to note that non-toxic shotshells are mandatory at select hunting sites including Des Plaines and Jim Edgar Panther Creek. Hunters must ensure compliance with this requirement while hunting at these locations.
