Eureka, CA – California’s North Coast braces for dangerous sneaker waves and dense fog starting Sunday, as a shifting spring weather pattern builds through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service, a Beach Hazards Statement takes effect Sunday morning through Sunday evening, warning of large, unexpected waves along Coastal Del Norte, Northern Humboldt, and Southwestern Mendocino counties. An additional alert returns Tuesday morning and lasts through Wednesday afternoon. These waves can sweep beachgoers into the ocean, especially along Highway 101 near coastal access points. Residents are urged to stay off rocks, jetties, and logs and to never turn their back on the ocean.
Inland, patchy morning fog continues daily through Tuesday, followed by increasing cloud cover and rain by Tuesday night. Highs climb from the upper 50s Sunday to the mid-60s Tuesday, with Monday and Tuesday offering the sunniest spring-like breaks before another round of rain midweek.
Here’s the Five-Day Forecast for Eureka and Surrounding Coastal Communities:
• Sunday: Patchy fog, then partly sunny. High near 59°F.
• Monday: Fog early, then mostly sunny. High around 62°F.
• Tuesday: Slight chance of rain late. High near 66°F.
• Wednesday: Rain mainly after 11 a.m. High near 62°F.
• Thursday: Rain likely, cooler with highs in the low 50s.
Action Tip: Plan beach outings cautiously and check NWS updates before travel. Spring is arriving slowly, but the ocean remains dangerously unpredictable.
