Eureka, CA – A winter storm is bringing moderate to heavy snow to mountain passes in Northern California, impacting travel through Thursday afternoon. Snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches are expected above 2,000 feet, while areas above 1,500 feet could see up to an inch of snowfall.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Eureka, snowfall is expected to affect key highways, including 299, 199, and 36, particularly in Trinity County, Del Norte Interior, and Humboldt Interior. Some valley floors may also see light snow overnight into Thursday morning.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution, as road conditions could become hazardous with reduced visibility and increased accident risks. For updated road conditions, travelers can check CalTrans’ QuickMap at quickmap.dot.ca.gov. The latest forecast for mountain passes is available at weather.gov/eka.

Authorities urge drivers to prepare for winter conditions, carry chains if required, and allow extra travel time.
