Erie, Pennsylvania – A final burst of lake effect snow will coat roads across northwest Pennsylvania before 7 a.m. Tuesday, creating slick conditions for early morning drivers.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday for Northern Erie, Southern Erie and Crawford counties. Additional accumulations up to 1 inch are expected overnight as narrow snow bands continue off Lake Erie.
Even minor snowfall can quickly cover untreated pavement along Interstate 90, Interstate 79 and Route 19 near Meadville. Local roads in Erie, Union City, Edinboro, Corry and Titusville may turn slick before daybreak, especially on bridges and overpasses.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission urge motorists to heed travel advisories and consider delaying unnecessary trips during the early commute window. Drivers should reduce speed and allow extra stopping distance.
Snow showers will taper around sunrise Tuesday, but isolated slippery spots may persist through the early morning hours.
