Erie, PA – A Lake Effect Snow Warning has been issued for Erie County, Pennsylvania, where snowfall totals could reach up to 12 inches by Thursday morning. The warning is in effect from 4 p.m. Wednesday through 4 p.m. Thursday, with hazardous conditions expected throughout the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, the heaviest snowfall will likely occur along Lake Erie’s shoreline, with snow accumulations ranging from 6 to 12 inches. Winds gusting up to 40 mph will create blowing and drifting snow, leading to near-whiteout conditions in some areas. Visibility could be significantly reduced, making travel treacherous.
Meanwhile, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the Ashtabula Lakeshore region in northern Ohio during the same time frame. Snowfall in this area could also exceed 6 inches, especially in areas impacted by persistent lake-effect snow bands.
Residents are urged to monitor local weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel as conditions worsen. Those venturing out should prepare for icy roads, limited visibility, and rapidly changing conditions.
