Sardinia, NY – Two men from Sardinia in Erie County are facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following a SWAT-assisted search of a home that investigators say uncovered drugs, weapons, and paraphernalia.

According to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Roy Smith, 64, and Elijah Smith, 25, after executing a court-authorized search warrant on Van Slyke Road in Sardinia on Wednesday. The warrant was issued as part of an ongoing investigation by the Narcotics and Intelligence Unit.

Authorities said both suspects were located inside the residence and taken into custody without incident. During the search, deputies allegedly recovered suspected methamphetamine, diazepam, buprenorphine naloxone films, and hydrocodone pills. Investigators also reported finding drug paraphernalia and multiple firearms that were allegedly possessed illegally.

Roy Smith faces several charges, including third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon, and multiple counts related to drug paraphernalia. Elijah Smith is also charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and weapon possession, along with multiple counts tied to drug paraphernalia and additional controlled substance charges.

Both men were transported to the Erie County Holding Center, where they remain pending arraignment.

Sheriff John C. Garcia stated that community complaints about suspicious activity helped initiate the investigation. He emphasized that such tips play a critical role in identifying and addressing illegal activity across Erie County.
