Elwood, IL – The Elwood Fire Protection District is spreading holiday cheer in a creative way this year by launching its first-ever Holiday Card Contest with students from Elwood School.

According to the department, students are invited to design a festive, fire safety–themed drawing that celebrates firefighters and the holiday season. The winning artwork will be featured on the department’s official 2025 Holiday Card, with the young artist also receiving a special visit and photo opportunity with local firefighters.

Entries must be created on 8.5 x 11-inch horizontal paper and include the student’s first name, grade, and teacher’s name on the back. All artwork should be turned in to teachers by Friday, December 5.

The department shared on social media that flyers were distributed this week to students, encouraging them to participate and show off their creativity.

“We can’t wait to see the artistic talent and fire safety messages our Elwood students come up with,” the department posted.

This community effort marks a fun new way for Elwood’s youngest residents to connect with their local firefighters while promoting safety awareness during the holidays.
