Elmhurst, IL – A DuPage County judge has granted a state motion to detain Jordan Boyd, a 24-year-old Bellwood resident, before trial. Boyd is accused of crashing into an Elmhurst squad car while allegedly intoxicated. He faces multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated battery and several traffic offenses.
On November 3, Elmhurst police responded to a reported altercation on South Grace Avenue. According to police, Boyd got into his vehicle as officers arrived, allegedly driving directly into a marked police car. The impact caused the squad car’s airbags to deploy, resulting in a facial laceration and pepper spray exposure for the officer inside.
Following the crash, Boyd reportedly displayed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and glassy eyes. Officials allege his blood alcohol content was 0.28, more than three times the legal limit.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin condemned Boyd’s alleged actions, emphasizing the risks posed to law enforcement. Elmhurst Police Chief Michael McLean praised his officers’ response and expressed gratitude for the injured officer’s recovery.
Boyd’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 2.
