Elmhurst, Illinois — Two men were arrested after Elmhurst police pursued a stolen Honda CR-V across multiple suburbs Friday.

According to the Elmhurst Police Department, officers were alerted around 3:10 p.m. March 1 to a silver Honda CR-V reportedly stolen in Chicago and displaying recently stolen license plates.

Police said the same vehicle had previously fled from Naperville Police on March 10, Aurora Police on March 11, and Downers Grove Police on March 11.

Elmhurst officers spotted the vehicle heading north on York Street at Vallette Street and followed it east onto St. Charles Road. During the pursuit, officers deployed a tire deflation device as the SUV entered the ramp to eastbound Interstate 290 from St. Charles Road, authorities said.

The Honda continued east on I-290 before exiting near 17th Avenue, where police said it stopped near Second and Harvard avenues in Maywood with three flat tires. Several occupants reportedly ran from the vehicle.

Officers from multiple departments searched the area with assistance from a Chicago Police helicopter, according to police.

Authorities said officers located two suspects near First Avenue and Roosevelt Road and took them into custody. A third suspect was not apprehended.

Police identified the suspects as Abdulhafehd H. Abdulhafehd, 25, of Aurora, and Wenzel C. Draper, 32, of Chicago. Both men allegedly face felony charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of stolen license plates. Abdulhafehd is also charged with obstructing a police officer, authorities said.

Both suspects were transported to the DuPage County Judicial Center for a first court appearance.

Police reminded the public that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

For commuters and students traveling between western suburbs and Chicago, the I-290 corridor frequently sees heavy afternoon traffic, making police pursuits particularly disruptive.
