Norman, OK – Oklahoma is under heightened wildfire risk this week as dry conditions persist. The National Weather Service in Norman has issued an elevated fire weather outlook for western and northern regions on Tuesday. Gusty south winds and high temperatures, combined with ongoing drought, increase the risk of fire spread.

According to the NWS, the elevated risk extends through Wednesday in northwest Oklahoma. High temperatures are expected to range from 85-93°F, with winds reaching 14 mph, and gusts up to 24 mph. Relative humidity is forecasted to dip as low as 17%, exacerbating the dry conditions.

The U.S. Drought Monitor highlights areas of moderate to severe drought, particularly in southwestern Oklahoma. Officials urge residents to avoid activities that could cause sparks or fires, such as parking on dry grass or improperly discarding cigarettes. Fire prevention efforts will remain critical as dry conditions are expected to continue through the week.
