Concord, MA — On August 22, 2016, an EF-1 tornado struck Concord, Massachusetts, during the early morning hours. The tornado hit with wind speeds reaching 100 mph, tearing through a 0.5-mile path with a width of 400 yards. The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning at 3:01 a.m., and the tornado touched down just 19 minutes later at 3:20 a.m.
This tornado marked the fifth instance of a twister striking Massachusetts between midnight and 6 a.m., a rare event since the last similar occurrence in 1970. The storm inflicted significant damage, ripping apart homes and uprooting trees. Fortunately, it did not cause any fatalities.
