Spokane, WA – Residents of Spokane and surrounding areas in eastern Washington should prepare for severe weather as thunderstorms are expected to return Saturday afternoon. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a warning that thunderstorms will develop across eastern Washington and northern Idaho between 1 PM and 11 PM.
According to the NWS Spokane office, the storms bring multiple hazards, including cloud-to-ground lightning, gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and the potential for new wildfire ignitions. With wildfires already a significant concern in the region, the threat of lightning strikes and gusty winds could further exacerbate fire risks.
Residents are advised to stay indoors during the peak hours of the storm, secure outdoor objects that could become projectiles, and remain alert to any weather updates. The NWS also suggests preparing for sudden downpours that could lead to flash flooding in some areas.
The storms are expected to diminish late Saturday night, with calmer weather anticipated on Sunday. However, the weekend’s severe weather could disrupt travel and outdoor activities in Spokane and nearby areas.
