Boise, ID – Residents across southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon should brace for a mix of rain and snow through Tuesday as winter weather impacts the region. Light snow has already been observed early Monday, with conditions expected to shift and affect travel across key roads.
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, snowfall occurred around 4 a.m. MST Monday. Snow levels currently sit at valley floors but will rise to 3,000-4,500 feet by the afternoon as temperatures increase. This pattern will result in rain and slushy road conditions, especially in low-lying areas and along major routes such as I-84 and US-20.
Monday’s high will reach near 42 degrees Fahrenheit, with rain dominating by midday. Winds out of the southeast at 10-14 mph will accompany precipitation, adding a slight chill to the day. Drivers are urged to plan for slippery conditions and reduced visibility on roadways, particularly during the morning and evening commutes.
Looking ahead, Tuesday brings another chance of rain, primarily in the morning, with cloudy skies and a high of 44 degrees. Rainfall is expected to taper off by the afternoon, though winds will persist at light to moderate speeds. Overnight temperatures will drop into the mid-30s, causing potential refreezing in shaded areas.
The extended forecast shows mostly dry conditions mid-week, with highs in the mid-40s through Friday. However, colder overnight lows near 30 degrees could lead to patchy ice. By Saturday, a 40% chance of rain returns, signaling a wet weekend ahead.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated with forecasts and exercise caution while traveling during rain-snow transitions.
