Newport, NC – A strong cold front will bring gusty winds and thunderstorms to Eastern North Carolina on Sunday. Forecasters warn that high winds could cause power outages and travel disruptions.

According to the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City, the front will move in Sunday morning, bringing showers and possible thunderstorms. Some storms could produce damaging winds, even outside of thunderstorms.

The latest wind risk outlook categorizes much of the region under a “Limited” risk. This means loose outdoor items could be blown around. Stronger gusts may lead to localized damage and difficult travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Residents should secure outdoor objects, check for weather updates, and prepare for potential outages. Coastal areas, including Morehead City, Kill Devil Hills, and Jacksonville, will likely experience the highest wind speeds.

The cold front will exit the region Monday morning, bringing calmer conditions. Stay updated by following the National Weather Service for alerts and safety tips.
