Albany, NY – A winter storm is sweeping through portions of eastern New York, with up to a foot of snow expected in higher elevations by early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, the Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday for western Greene and western Ulster counties, including the areas of Windham, Woodstock, and Hunter. Snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are forecast for elevations above 1,500 feet, with localized amounts possibly exceeding that range. Lower elevations are expected to see up to 5 inches.

Travel conditions are expected to be hazardous, particularly during Friday’s morning and evening commutes. Authorities caution that the weight of the snow may lead to downed trees and power lines, increasing the risk of power outages.

Drivers are advised to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, if travel is necessary. For the latest road conditions, residents can call 511.

Stay updated on weather alerts and take precautions as heavy snowfall continues to impact the region into the weekend.
