New Bern, NC – A winter weather advisory is in effect for eastern North Carolina, including New Bern and the Outer Banks, until 10 a.m. Thursday. Slick roads, black ice, and light freezing rain or drizzle are expected to create hazardous travel conditions overnight and into the morning.
The National Weather Service reports that areas like Dare, Beaufort, and Onslow counties could see a light glaze of ice due to freezing rain after midnight. Lingering snowpack combined with subfreezing temperatures will worsen road conditions, making sidewalks, bridges, and highways dangerously slippery.
Commuters are urged to drive cautiously and allow extra travel time. The black ice risk is especially high during tonight’s and Thursday morning’s commutes. Pedestrians should also take care on icy surfaces to avoid slips or falls.
