Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico residents are experiencing a deep chill this week, with sub-zero wind chills persisting in many areas through Friday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of frostbite risks, urging residents to limit outdoor activities and dress warmly.

According to the NWS Albuquerque office, wind chills are expected to drop to -15°F in some areas, including Taos and Santa Fe, by Thursday morning. Cities like Albuquerque and Farmington could see wind chills as low as -6°F. The cold air, accompanied by breezy northwest winds, will make conditions feel significantly colder than actual temperatures, which will hover in the 20s and 30s overnight.

Temperatures are forecast to warm slightly by the weekend, but daytime highs will remain below seasonal averages, ranging from the 30s to low 50s. Light snow showers are possible in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains on Wednesday evening, though precipitation chances remain low elsewhere.

Residents should follow the “Four Ps” safety guidelines: protect people, pets, plants, and pipes. The NWS advises dressing in layers, covering exposed skin, and staying indoors during peak cold hours. Stay tuned for updates on any weather advisories or changes to the forecast.
