Caribou, ME – The National Weather Service in Caribou has issued a Winter Storm Watch for much of central, coastal, and Downeast Maine, warning that 5 to 10 inches of snow may fall from Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning.

The system is expected to bring heavy snow to regions including Penobscot, Hancock, Washington, and Piscataquis Counties, impacting cities such as Bangor, Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, Calais, and Dover-Foxcroft.

Forecasters warn that travel could become very difficult, particularly during the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes, as snow accumulates on roads and visibility drops.

The heaviest snowfall is likely to occur Tuesday evening into early Wednesday, with some areas potentially seeing double-digit accumulations. Wind gusts along the coast could further reduce visibility, creating near-whiteout conditions in spots.

Residents are urged to monitor forecast updates and prepare for potential school delays, travel disruptions, or power issues as the storm moves in.

The Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
