Jackson, KY – Eastern Kentucky residents should prepare for possible severe weather Monday, as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Marginal Risk alert for thunderstorms across the region.
According to the NWS Jackson office, damaging wind gusts are the main hazard expected, though small hail, lightning, and heavy rain could also develop. The advisory covers all of eastern Kentucky, with storms possible throughout the day.
Forecasters note that isolated damaging winds are possible with the strongest storms. Even though the risk is considered marginal, the NWS cautions that any severe thunderstorm can still cause property damage, downed trees, or localized power outages.
Residents are reminded to take safety precautions when storms approach. “When thunder roars, head indoors,” the agency emphasized in its statement Sunday.
The timing of storms may impact both morning and evening travel, and those with outdoor plans Monday should stay weather-aware and monitor alerts.
The NWS continues to track the system and will issue updates as conditions develop.
