Kansas City, Missouri – A broad late-winter warm-up is taking shape across Kansas and Missouri, bringing a noticeable break from recent cold and setting up a calmer stretch of weather across the central Plains. Temperatures are expected to trend well above seasonal averages, improving travel conditions and easing heating demand on both sides of the state line.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, the Feb. 9–15 outlook favors above-normal temperatures across much of the central Plains and Midwest. Both Kansas and Missouri fall within a strong warm signal, pointing to several consecutive days of milder-than-average conditions.

In eastern Kansas, including Wichita, Topeka, and Lawrence, afternoon highs are expected to climb into the 40s and 50s, helping melt lingering snow and reduce daytime ice concerns. Central and western Kansas also trend warmer, though cooler mornings may still bring patchy slick spots.

Across Missouri, including Kansas City, Columbia, and St. Louis, mild afternoons are expected to become more common, improving conditions along major corridors such as Interstates 70 and 35. Northern Missouri warms more gradually but avoids prolonged bitter cold during this stretch.

Despite the warming trend, the pattern remains dry. No organized rain or winter weather systems are evident, keeping travel disruptions minimal but limiting soil moisture recharge.

Overnight refreezing remains possible, especially on untreated surfaces. Additional outlooks will determine whether the mild pattern holds deeper into February or if colder air returns to the region.
