Davenport, Iowa – Strong winds and unseasonably warm temperatures are creating an immediate fire risk across eastern Iowa and western Illinois through Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, southwest winds will increase through the afternoon with gusts nearing 30 mph while temperatures climb into the upper 70s to near 88°F. These conditions, combined with dry vegetation, elevate the risk for rapidly spreading fires across the region.

Cities including Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, and Bettendorf will see the warmest conditions during peak afternoon hours, with open areas and fields especially vulnerable. Travel along I-80, I-74, and US-61 could also be impacted by strong crosswinds, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose items, and use caution with equipment that could spark flames. Fire crews remain on alert as any ignition could spread quickly under these conditions.

A cold front arrives by Sunday, dropping highs into the upper 40s to upper 60s with much cooler air settling in by Sunday night. Additional updates may follow as the temperature swing unfolds.
