Chicago, Illinois – A dramatic temperature swing will impact northern Illinois within the next 24 hours, as near 80°F warmth today gives way to blustery winds and temperatures falling into the 40s by Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, highs Saturday will reach between 74°F and 80°F, especially near and south of I-80, before a strong cold front moves through early Sunday. Winds will increase behind the front, ushering in much colder air and creating noticeably brisk conditions through the day.

Chicago, Joliet, and Kankakee will see the sharpest drop, with temperatures falling from the upper 70s Saturday into the 40s and low 50s Sunday. Areas closer to Lake Michigan, including downtown Chicago and Evanston, may remain even cooler due to onshore winds.

Light rain or drizzle is possible Sunday, which could lead to damp roads along I-90, I-94, and I-55, especially during the morning hours. Gusty winds may also impact travel, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

Residents should prepare for rapidly changing conditions by dressing in layers and securing loose outdoor items. Cooler weather continues into early next week, with additional updates possible as the pattern shifts
