Moline, IL – Snow showers sweeping through eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois are creating hazardous road conditions this morning, especially along Interstates 80 and 74. Early commuters should prepare for visibility under a quarter mile and snow-covered roadways.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall is expected to taper off by mid-morning today, with total accumulations under an inch for most areas. However, heavier bursts could bring localized higher amounts, especially near Galesburg and Davenport. Winds of up to 20 mph are creating icy patches on highways and bridges. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds, increase following distances, and allow extra time for travel.

Wednesday night will see mostly clear skies, but wind chills could drop as low as -5°F, posing additional risks for those outdoors. On Thursday, snow is forecast to return in the afternoon, with accumulations between 1 and 2 inches possible by evening.

Looking ahead, a wintry mix of snow, freezing rain, and rain is expected Friday night into Saturday, which could lead to significant travel disruptions. By Sunday, conditions will improve with partly sunny skies and highs near 42°F.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and ensure vehicles are winter-ready. For those traveling on I-80 and I-74 today, slow down, avoid sudden stops, and check road conditions at 511ia.org or gettingaroundillinois.com before heading out.
