Pueblo, Colo. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to rumble across eastern Colorado Thursday evening, with damaging winds and large hail posing a threat to several counties through 11 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for 13 counties, including El Paso, Pueblo, Kit Carson, and Bent. The storms could produce wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail larger than quarters as they track eastward into the night.

Cities from Colorado Springs to Lamar are in the potential impact zone. Motorists on I-25 and U.S. 50 should prepare for rapidly changing conditions and possible debris on the roads. Power outages may occur if winds topple tree limbs or utility lines.

Residents in affected counties—especially in mobile homes or outdoor structures—are advised to seek sturdy shelter and avoid travel unless necessary. Secure loose objects outdoors, charge electronic devices, and stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local media for urgent updates.

This is the first widespread severe thunderstorm threat of the spring season for southeastern Colorado. Additional watches or warnings could be issued later tonight as the storm system moves east.

Warnings remain in effect until 11 p.m. MDT Thursday.
