Phoenix, Arizona — A weakening weather system is expected to bring light rain to much of eastern Arizona from Friday afternoon through Saturday, with the highest chances Friday night into Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, rain chances will primarily affect the eastern two-thirds of the state as the system moves across the Desert Southwest. Most locations are expected to see light rainfall, with the highest liquid-equivalent totals focused over southeast Arizona and portions of the eastern Arizona high terrain.

Forecasters said the best moisture and rainfall probabilities will occur during the overnight period Friday into Saturday afternoon. Probability maps indicate localized areas could exceed a quarter-inch of rain, though widespread heavy rainfall is not anticipated.

The primary impacts include water on roadways, which could lead to slick driving conditions during periods of rain. In higher elevations above 7,000 feet, snow is possible, particularly across mountainous terrain, though specific accumulation amounts were not detailed in the update.

The system is expected to weaken as it moves through the region, limiting the overall impact. However, officials caution that even light rainfall can create travel hazards, especially during nighttime hours or on untreated roads.

Drivers traveling Friday night or Saturday, particularly in eastern and southeastern Arizona, are encouraged to allow extra travel time and monitor changing conditions.

The National Weather Service said forecast confidence will continue to improve as the system approaches and advised residents to stay updated through official forecasts and statements.
