Shreveport, LA – A flood watch is in effect until 6 PM Friday for parts of northwest Louisiana and eastern Texas due to ongoing heavy rainfall. Areas affected include Angelina, Cherokee, Nacogdoches, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby counties in Texas, and portions of northwest Louisiana including Sabine and Natchitoches parishes.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, temperatures will remain below average, ranging from the upper 70s to low 80s. The region will experience widespread showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Precipitation chances are highest in areas such as Lufkin, Shreveport, and Texarkana, with probabilities exceeding 90%.
The forecast for the weekend includes continued rain, with a 65% chance of showers on Saturday and a 55% chance on Sunday. Temperatures will gradually rise, reaching the low 90s by midweek.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain vigilant as excessive runoff may lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, and other low-lying locations. The National Weather Service warns that flooding may also occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
Despite the rain, temperatures are expected to reach the mid-80s on Friday and gradually increase, with highs nearing the mid-90s by Wednesday. Sunshine is forecasted to return by Monday, bringing a temporary respite from the wet weather.
