Knoxville, TN – East Tennessee is under a winter weather advisory until 7 p.m. Sunday, as snow and ice make travel hazardous across the region. Drivers are urged to use caution, with up to one inch of snow and light ice accumulations expected throughout the day.

The National Weather Service reports that icy conditions began forming early Sunday morning. Roads in Knox, Jefferson, and Sullivan counties, including major routes like I-40 and I-75, are already slick. Black ice poses an increased danger, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Commuters are advised to slow down and prepare for extended travel times.

Snowfall is forecast to taper off by early evening, but temperatures will remain below freezing overnight, keeping roadways treacherous into Monday morning. Officials recommend avoiding unnecessary travel and checking local road conditions through Tennessee’s 511 system before heading out.

The five-day outlook brings a warming trend beginning Monday afternoon, with highs climbing into the mid-40s by Wednesday. However, another cold front could deliver light snow flurries on Friday, creating additional concerns for the end of the week.

For those venturing out, emergency kits are encouraged, including blankets, water, and non-perishable food. Residents are also reminded to check on elderly neighbors and ensure pets are protected from the cold.
