Melbourne, FL – Cooler weather and hazardous surf conditions are gripping east central Florida as rip current risks remain high along local beaches. Temperatures will rise into the low 70s by Monday, but wind chills and cooler mornings persist across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Moderate Risk for rip currents continues along Volusia and Brevard County beaches. High surf from northerly winds is expected, with waves reaching up to seven feet. Beachgoers are advised to swim only near lifeguards and avoid the water if uncertain of conditions.

North winds, gusting up to 25 mph, will contribute to a Small Craft Advisory in effect for Volusia County waters starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Mariners should expect seas of 4 to 7 feet. Inland, skies remain partly cloudy with slight chances of rain through the week.

Monday’s high temperatures will hover around 74 degrees, followed by lows in the 60s at night. Christmas Day is forecast to bring partly sunny skies and a 40% chance of showers, with highs nearing 76 degrees. Breezy conditions are likely to persist into midweek, keeping mornings brisk.

Residents and visitors should plan for variable conditions throughout the holiday week. Drivers traveling near coastal roadways, including A1A, should remain cautious as strong winds may reduce visibility.
