Wynne, AR – On Friday, August 16, 2024, Arkansas State Police (ASP), alongside the Cross County Sheriff’s Office and Wynne Police, initiated a joint operation to curb impaired driving. The operation, which ran from noon to midnight, resulted in six arrests for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and the issuance of 120 citations, including 22 for speeding and five for hazardous violations. Law enforcement also seized marijuana and methamphetamine during the operation.
According to ASP, 20 individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants, with five facing felony charges. Officers interacted with over 350 motorists during the 12-hour period.
The operation is part of a broader Labor Day initiative running from August 16 to September 2, 2024. This campaign, supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), aims to deter impaired driving and prevent tragic incidents observed in previous years. In 2022, Arkansas reported 643 traffic fatalities, with 153 involving drivers with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher. The heightened enforcement seeks to reduce these numbers during the holiday period.
