Northern Indiana – Residents of Northern Indiana can expect a taste of early fall this weekend, with temperatures dipping into the low 70s, which is unusual for August. The cooler weather, accompanied by low humidity and plenty of sunshine, will provide a welcome break from the summer heat. However, while the forecast looks ideal for outdoor activities, beachgoers are urged to exercise caution.
According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, high waves and rip currents are anticipated through the weekend, resulting in a High Swim Risk along Lake Michigan, especially through Saturday. The service warns that while the weather will be mild, it’s important to stay out of the water and off piers and breakwalls to avoid potentially dangerous conditions.
Tonight, temperatures are expected to drop to a low of 52-57°F under mostly clear skies. Saturday will bring partly cloudy skies with highs between 70-74°F. The trend of sunny weather continues Sunday, with temperatures rising slightly to 73-77°F. Early next week, Monday and Tuesday will see highs of 75-80°F with mostly sunny skies, though there’s a slight chance of showers on Monday.
Beach conditions are expected to remain hazardous through the weekend, with waves reaching 3-5 feet on Saturday and Sunday. A moderate swim risk is anticipated for Monday, with slightly calmer waters. Despite the inviting weather, the National Weather Service strongly advises against entering the water during these high-risk periods.
