Wheaton, IL – A multi-year identity theft investigation has led to the arrest of a Lombard man accused of targeting dozens of victims across Wheaton and DuPage County.

According to the Wheaton Police Department, detectives arrested 56-year-old Mark Wrendina on Sept. 25, 2025, after a DuPage County Grand Jury indicted him on 16 felony counts tied to alleged financial crimes. Authorities say Wrendina allegedly used stolen personal information to create fraudulent accounts, make unauthorized purchases, and access sensitive financial data belonging to more than 30 people.

The investigation began in August 2022 and involved search warrants and subpoenas executed at Wrendina’s residence and at financial institutions, police said. On Sept. 23, 2025, the grand jury charged Wrendina with identity theft, continuing financial crimes enterprise, financial institution fraud, theft, forgery, and possession of child pornography. A warrant was then issued for his arrest.

Wheaton Police took Wrendina into custody on Sept. 25, and he was booked into the DuPage County Jail. Court records show he was released on Sept. 26 and is scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 20, 2025.

Police remind the public that charges are only accusations, and Wrendina is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
