Villa Park, IL – A Villa Park woman accused of driving drunk and causing a crash that injured two people has been ordered held before trial, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.

According to State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, 37-year-old Karina Alonso allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic near West Ridge Road and Westmore Avenue on October 15 around 6:38 p.m., striking another vehicle head-on. Both victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said Alonso fled the scene on foot but was taken into custody about ten minutes later near James Street and Westmore Avenue. Police allege she exhibited slurred speech, smelled of alcohol, and later tested at a blood alcohol content of 0.158, nearly twice the legal limit. Officers also reportedly found two bottles of tequila in her vehicle.

Alonso is charged with Aggravated DUI – 4th Violation, Failure to Report an Accident Involving Personal Injury, and Driving While License Suspended, among other offenses.

“This type of behavior, which puts the motoring public at risk, will not be tolerated in DuPage County,” Berlin said, urging drivers to seek alternatives if they have been drinking.

Villa Park Police Chief Todd Kubish commended his officers for their quick response, adding that “innocent people were injured by a reckless and irresponsible individual who allegedly chose to operate a vehicle with complete disregard for safety.”

Alonso’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 30, 2025, before Judge Joseph Bugos.
