Duluth, Minnesota – Dangerously cold conditions continue to grip Duluth as bitter wind chills and a round of light snow threaten travel across the Northland. While snowfall amounts remain minor, the combination of extreme cold and slick roads is creating heightened risk for drivers, especially during overnight and early morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, Cold Weather Advisories remain in effect through Tuesday morning, with wind chills ranging from 25 to 40 degrees below zero across northeastern Minnesota. Daytime wind chills are expected to recover only slightly, staying between 15 and 30 below zero, making exposure hazardous and increasing the chance of refreezing on untreated roads.

A fast-moving clipper system is expected to bring light snow Tuesday evening into Wednesday, with most areas seeing less than one inch of accumulation. The best chance for measurable snow will be along and south of U.S. Highway 2. Even light snow could lead to slick conditions on key routes including I-35, U.S. 53, and Highway 61, particularly on bridges and shaded stretches.

Officials urge drivers to slow down, carry winter survival supplies, and limit non-essential travel during the coldest periods. Slightly less cold air arrives midweek, but even colder Arctic air is expected late week into the weekend, potentially bringing the coldest temperatures of the season. Additional advisories are likely as conditions evolve.
