DULUTH, Minn. – Northern Minnesota will get a taste of summer heat midweek before temperatures tumble into more autumn-like territory by the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, highs will climb into the mid to upper 70s through Thursday, with some areas, including Hibbing and Grand Rapids, reaching 80 degrees. Thunderstorms are possible Thursday afternoon into the evening, with localized downpours and brief gusty winds the main concerns.
By Friday night, cooler Canadian air begins to move in. Highs will only reach the mid-60s across much of the region Saturday and Sunday, with overnight lows dropping into the 50s. International Falls and Ely may dip closer to the upper 40s, creating the first real “fall feel” of the season.
Drivers should be alert Thursday evening as storms may bring reduced visibility along U.S. Highway 53 and I-35. Cooler weekend conditions could ease wildfire concerns but may prompt residents to switch off air conditioning for the first time in weeks.
Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly early next week, but the weekend will bring a noticeable shift toward more seasonal weather.
