Drone Technology Helps Rescue 67-Year-Old Hunter in Michigan Game Area

Portage, MI – A 67-year-old hunter was rescued from the Gourdneck State Game Area after getting lost on Sunday evening. Portage Public Safety Police and Fire units responded to a report of a disoriented hunter at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Using drone technology and cellphone GPS data, responding units quickly located the lost hunter. Drone pilots guided rescue personnel to the man’s location, ensuring a swift and efficient rescue. According to the Portage Department of Public Safety, contact with the man, a Portage resident, was made by 9:40 p.m.

The hunter was safely extricated from the woods around 10:40 p.m. and was unharmed. Assisting in the rescue were the Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Authority and South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority.
