Monee, IL – A driver is in critical condition after their vehicle flew off Route 50 and slammed into a building Monday night. The crash, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. at 26903 Rt. 50, ignited a fire that engulfed both the car and the structure.
According to the Monee Fire Protection District, the driver was trapped inside the burning vehicle and had to be airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center for urgent treatment. The extent of the damage to the building and vehicle remains unclear at this time, and the cost of the crash is still being assessed.
Fire departments from surrounding areas, including Beecher and Crete, assisted in extinguishing the flames and managing the response. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
