Dorchester County, SC – A 21-year-old Moncks Corner man is facing attempted murder and weapons charges after authorities say a Thursday night shooting left one person hospitalized in Dorchester County.
According to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence on Birch Lane at approximately 10:28 p.m. Thursday, July 16, following reports of a shooting. Patrol Team Four deputies arrived and detained Cyeaven Benn, 21, of Moncks Corner, while the investigation began.
Deputies then located a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities said deputies immediately provided lifesaving medical care until additional emergency personnel arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials have not released the victim’s condition or identity.
According to the sheriff’s office, the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
As a result of the investigation, investigators charged Benn with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Benn remains in custody at the L.C. Knight Detention Center, according to the sheriff’s office.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting have not been released, and investigators have not disclosed a possible motive.
