Lake Charles, LA – Sky watchers in the Midwest can catch a rare glimpse of Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS this weekend. The comet will be visible low in the western sky just after sunset.
According to the National Weather Service, the best viewing time starts after sunset on October 12, with the comet setting around 6:44 p.m. CDT. Conditions for the next few nights will be mostly clear, providing an excellent chance to see the comet before it moves farther away from Earth.
Experts recommend finding an unobstructed horizon for optimal viewing since the comet will sit low in the sky. Clear weather should allow visibility with the naked eye.
The comet’s brightness will gradually decrease over the next few days, with viewing opportunities available until October 14. Be sure to look west right after sunset for your best chance to spot this celestial event before it becomes too faint.
