Dodge City, KS – A strong warming trend is expected to take hold across southwest Kansas beginning Wednesday, bringing a stretch of dry and unusually warm weather that will last into mid-October.

According to the US National Weather Service in Dodge City, both afternoon and morning temperatures will climb well above seasonal averages through October 17, with no frost or freeze expected anytime soon. Meteorologists say the region will sit on the northern edge of a warm-air mass driven by strong high pressure centered over Texas.

The 6–10 Day Temperature Outlook, issued early Tuesday, shows a large portion of the central and eastern United States shaded in red, signaling above-normal temperatures. For Kansas, this means continued dry skies and mild nights, ideal for harvest operations and outdoor activities but potentially concerning for those awaiting the season’s first freeze.

Residents can expect the warm pattern to hold through at least the middle of next week, with daytime highs staying well above October norms.
