Dodge City, KS – Rain is expected to expand across western and central Kansas tonight, bringing high chances for meaningful precipitation in several counties. Forecasters say the system will continue north and east overnight before slowly tapering off on Friday.

According to the National Weather Service Dodge City office, rainfall coverage will increase this evening, with the heaviest and most persistent bands expected along the I-70 corridor. Communities including Hays and WaKeeney may see lingering rain through Friday afternoon, raising the potential for locally higher totals.

Probability graphics released Thursday show a 90% chance of at least one-half inch of rain in the Hays area, 86% around Scott City, 72% at Dodge City, 78% near Wichita, and 90% around Salina. Liberal carries a lower chance at around 33%. The zone of highest confidence stretches from northwest Kansas into central portions of the state, with Colby topping the map at 91%.

The rain will begin diminishing from south to north during the day Friday, though areas farther north may continue to see steady showers into the afternoon. Travel impacts should remain minor, but forecasters note that localized ponding on roads is possible where rainfall rates increase.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates as the system progresses overnight.
