Dodge City, KS – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for parts of central and western Kansas from 12 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, with light snow expected to cause slick roadways during the morning commute. The National Weather Service in Dodge City forecasts 1 to 2 inches of accumulation, mainly east of US 283 and north of US 54/400.

Forecasters say snow will begin after midnight and continue into mid-morning Monday, affecting cities including Hays, Russell, Great Bend, and Pratt. Winds will remain light, allowing snow to accumulate quickly and evenly on cold surfaces. Even minor accumulations may create hazardous travel conditions on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.

Unlike wind-driven systems, this snow event will feature little to no blowing snow, but visibility may still drop briefly during heavier bursts. Temperatures will stay below freezing throughout the morning, limiting melting and prolonging slick spots.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time for work and school commutes and to maintain safe following distances. The National Weather Service advises checking road conditions before traveling and being prepared for slower-than-normal travel speeds.
