Dodge City, Kan. – Heavy overnight storms are prompting multiple flood advisories across western Kansas and eastern Colorado, with rainfall totals already exceeding three inches in some areas. Low-lying roads, small streams, and poor drainage locations are most at risk as water continues to rise into the early morning hours Monday.
According to the National Weather Service, the most widespread impacts are being reported in Ford, Gray, Hodgeman, Meade, and Pawnee counties in Kansas, along with Cheyenne County in eastern Colorado. In Cheyenne County, Doppler radar indicated between 1.5 and 3.5 inches of rain had already fallen by midnight, with more showers expected through 2 a.m. MDT.
In Kansas, communities including Dodge City, Meade, Larned, Jetmore, and Cimarron could see an additional one to two inches of rain before storms move out. Some low-water crossings, especially in rural areas, may become impassable. The NWS urges drivers to avoid flooded roads and to be especially cautious at night when hazards are harder to spot.
Minor flooding may persist into the morning commute, particularly near creeks and low bridges. Advisories remain in effect until at least 3:45 a.m. CDT, and further updates may be issued if rainfall continues.
